Torino Piemonte Aerospace | Aerospace & Defence Meetings Torino March 19th - 20th, 2008

Aerospace & Defense Meetings, the first international convention dedicated to the aerospace and defense industry to be staged in Italy, concluded on the 20th of March 2008. Unexpected numberd were registered: 1.000 professionals: 450 representing the 200 companies present as suppliers, and 200 for the enterprises registered as buyers, in addition to all the visitors that attended the conferences and the workshops. 5.400 meetings were pre-organised and 700 more were fixed on site. A great success brought in the Oval Lingotto of Torino by the Torino Chamber of Commerce and which was organised by the Piemonte Agency for Investments, Export and Turism in collaboration with BCI Business Conventions International, Piedmont Arospace District Promoting Committee, Torino City Council, Torino Province, Piemonte Regional Government, and AIAD (Italian Industries Association for Aerospace System and Defense).

The best international companies joined the event: Finmeccanica, Alenia Aeronautica, Aermacchi, Piaggio Aero, Thales Alenia Space, Selex Galileo, Augusta Westland, Boeing, Eads, Dassault Aviation, Northrop Grumman, Tupolev, Messier Dowty, Avio, Pratt & Whitney, Microtecnica, Elbit. All of them were in Torino to develop business opportunities. The italian aerospace poles, located in the regions of Piemojnte, Lombardia, Campania and Lazio, were also present.
Among the represented countries, all Europe - Italy, France, Germany, Holland, Switzeland, Spain, UK, Romania, Poland, Tcheck Republic - Russia, India, Israel, Hungary, United States, Canada, Mexico, China.

21 appointments, counting workshops and conferences, were attended by a high number of visitors. In particular, the conference "Vitual Design and Virtual Testing", which was part of the "Torino 2008 - World Design Capital" calendar, registered 350 participants, 200 of whom had not subscribed to "Aerospace & Defense Meetings". Protagonist of the event: Alenia Aeronautica, Boeing, Phamtom Works, Selex Galileo and Thales Alenia Aerospace. They analyzed together with the new challenges and potentialities of the application of the virtual reality to design and testing, that plays and increasing role in the scenario of the intenational aerospace industry. Thanks to its great adaptation to all disciplines, and the time and cost reduction, virtual reality can be use in all the phases of production: from the concept, to the final product respecting the standards and the certifications requested by the sector. Among its advantages, the rapidity in risk analysis and control, alongside the human factor: with a multicultural approach, it enables different teams spread all over the world to collaborate on the same project, cancelling problems related to time and space. In fact, the Boeing slogan "design anywhere, build everywhere" is all but casual.

Aerospace & Defense Meetings, which confirmed the technological excellence and the competitive position of the italian aerospace industries, and especially the Piemontese ones, will be back in 2009, and then become biannual from 2011 onwards. Rotating with the Aeromart in Tolouse.
